The 2006 Membership Committee
is very focused this year in
offering a diverse agenda of
exciting participatory activities
and events for you to join in.
One thing for sure is we knew
we wanted to schedule things
just for the fun of it! This
is what we came up with and
hope you agree with us: RADIO
MUSIC THEATRE will be
our next Membership Social on
June 9,
2006. You may ask, what’s
a Radio Music Theatre? Well…”you
can’t describe it; you
just have to see it”.
In an attempt to answer this
often asked question I’ll
begin by telling you that Steve
Farrell, Vicki Farrell, and
Rich Mills make up this original
team who write, cast and produce
some of the most extremely funny
comedy found in the bayou city.
According to Rich Mills Radio
Music Theatre is: three people
doing multiple comic characters
and playing multiple musical
instruments. It’s the
singing Fertle family; it’s
Houston satire. It’s sketch
comedy and full length plays.
It’s a man doing wildly
creative sound effects while
he plays keyboards; it’s
a man running lights and slide
projectors while he flies in
props from the ceiling. It’s
controlled chaos. It’s
hard to characterize. Many times
we hear audience members say,
“We were here last month,
and we came back tonight and
brought friends with us. We
tried to describe Radio Music
Theatre to them, but they just
looked at us. You can’t
describe it. You just have to
see it.”
Opening May 18, 2006 and running
through September 2, 206 is
RMT”S upcoming Houston
satire Hotter Than Houston.
This full length sketch depicting
Houston tells the story of a
wayward Californian who finally
arrives at the "pearly
gates". Alas, St. Peter
feels the need to send him back
to earth to earn his heavenly
reward. So what is his task?
He has to save Houston from
economic disaster. His solution
is creative to the extreme.
Will he earn his wings? It's
another satiric look at Houston
through the eyes of Radio Music
Theatre.
So mark your calendar for Friday
night June 9, 2006 as the ICCC
joins with Radio Music Theatre
to bring you an evening of Laughter
& Comedy. The performance
begins at 8:30 pm and our evening
begins as we meet at 8:00 pm
to be seated. The RMT menu includes
an assortment of cakes,deserts,
cappuccino, soft drinks, Snapple,
Domestic beers, specialty beers,
white wine, red wine. These
items may be purchased before
and during the performance
Radio Music Theatre located
in its present custom-tailored
performing and recording facility
at 2623 Colquitt near Kirby
continues to delight Houston
audiences. (Capacity 175) There
are currently fourteen Fertle
family comedies, with more to
come, as well as numerous Houston
satire shows, and a few sketch-based
shows, all performed on a rotating
schedule. Four productions are
mounted each year, giving Houstonians
and their guests from out of
town ample opportunity to enjoy
that “controlled chaos”
which is RMT.
