We are pleased to announce the initiation of a contemporary Italian Film Series to be held at the Italian Cultural and Community Center. The series is co-sponsored by the Italy in America Association (IIAA).

Based on the overwhelming feedback we received from those attending the
Aperitivo Italiano, the ICCC will host a monthly film – always in Italian, with English sub-titles for friends in need - commencing on Wednesday, January 25. Films will be shown on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

The first film will be Ricordati di me (Remember Me) (2003) con Monica Bellocci e Laura Morante e Fabrizio Bentivoglio and directed by Gabriele Muccino.

Films will be shown in the auditorium of the ICCC, 1101 Milford Street, 77006.
Admission is FREE, and light snacks, sandwiches, popcorn and beverages
available for purchase.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the film will commence at 7:15 sharp.

When his father, Giancarlo (Sergio Castellitto) is transferred to Rome from the small country town of Montaldo Di Castro, Caterina (Alice Teghil), a 12 years old girl, will discover her new classmates, a totally new world, an ambient extremely divided politically. She starts developing her friendship with the "left side", represented by Margherita(Carolina Iaquaniello), and the right, Daniela (Federica Sbrenna) side of her class. She will lose herself, without knowing who she really is. However, maybe is Edward (Zach Wallen), the young Australian boy, who lives in the apartment across hers, that can help her more that she thinks.

Grazie al trasferimento che il padre Giancarlo (Castellitto), frustrato professore di ragioneria, ottiene finalmente dopo anni di inutili richieste, l'adolescente Caterina (Teghil) lascia la provincia con la famiglia e va a vivere a Roma. Col suo spaesamento ed il suo candore, Caterina diviene oggetto di contesa e di rivalità tra Margherita (Iaquaniello), figlia viziata di una nota scrittrice intellettuale di sinistra, e Daniela (Sbrenna), figlia snob di un importante esponente del governo di destra.

Grazia (Golino) is a mother of three who spends suffocating days packing fish while her husband Pietro (Amato) is at sea. Her oft-erratic behavior leads Pietro into thinking she may need medical attention, and he prepares to send her off to a psychiatric institute in Milan. Their son Pasquale (Casisa), the one person who understand his mother the most, vows to do whatever it takes to foil his father's plan.

Trama
In un villaggio di pescatori di Lampedusa bande di ragazzini si battono sulle scogliere, gli uomini vanno in mare e le donne lavorano al magazzino del pesce. Il sabato sera si ritrovano tutti in via Roma. La vita nel villaggio è immutabile: rassicurante e opprimente, affascinante e crudele. Grazia è la giovane madre di Marinella, Pasquale e Filippo. Personalità bizzarra e affettuosa, canta le canzoni di Patty Pravo e cerca di rendere felici quelli che ama: suo marito Pietro, i suoi figli e i suoi cani. Il villaggio, però, mal sopporta la sua spensieratezza e la sua libertà. Pietro subisce la pressione della comunità e decide di mandarla a Milano, ma Grazia si ribella, trovando in Pasquale un alleato che troverà il modo di proteggerla...

I cento passi (2000)

"I cento passi" (one hundred steps) was the distance between the Impastatos' house and the house of Tano Badalamenti, an important Mafia boss, in the small Sicilian town of Cinisi. The movie is the story of Peppino Impastato, a young left-wing activist that in the late seventies (when almost nobody dared to speak about Mafia, and several politicians maintained that Mafia did not even exist) repeatedly denounced Badalamenti crimes and the whole Mafia system using a small local radio station, with the arm of irony. In 1978 Peppino (30 years old) was killed by an explosion. The police archived the case as an accident or a suicide, but his friends never accepted this thesis. Note: This is a true story. More than 20 years after Peppino's death, the case has been re-opened. Tano Badalamenti, meanwhile, has been convicted in USA for drug traffic.
